Children

Children are a gift to the church and their participation brightens the experiences of all who gather!

Children’s Sunday School | 9:45 am | Room 14

Through Sunday School, children learn what it means to follow Christ and develop skills to participate and even lead our worship services. We meet each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. in Room 14 (August through May).

Come learn and grow in Christ with us Sunday mornings. We start the morning with connections and games and then learn Bible stories that help us share and live out our faith. We also host seasonal events, like “Almost Lock-ins,” Babies and Toddlers Fellowship time (so parents can mingle), and Trunk or Treat!

Children in Worship
We delight in having children of all ages in worship at Westminster. Sometimes it may feel difficult or distracting to worship alongside your children. That is okay! We want you to feel confident and relaxed during worship. The more children attend worship and go through routines and special days, the more they will feel a part of the service. To help you with that, here are some tips on navigating worship with young children.

Child Care/Nursery
The nursery is available for children who need care while parents worship or attend Sunday School. It is open during Sunday worship services at 11 am, and open during Sunday School from 9:15–12:30 pm during the school year. It is open for other seasonal worship services as well. Check our website for details on services at special times of the year.

Marta Woodard leads a dedicated staff of caring attendants who have provided loving care for Westminster’s youngest for many years. The nursery is located in Room 2 of the Education Building (courtyard).

Vacation Bible School (VBS)
We love our summer Vacation Bible School camp. We had a wonderful VBS crowd this summer, as well as an awesome partnership for aftercare, Austin Youth Fitness. Check back in the spring for updates about VBS.

Westminster’s Passages Program
Westminster marks the development of a child’s faith using our Passages Program. As children grow from babies to confirmation, children develop their ability to recognize God’s good gifts in their lives. We mark this growth in worship using the Passages program. We present first graders with books written by some of our members about worship. These explain the parts of our worship service and unique features of our worship space. We present third graders with their own Bible. We present fifth graders with the Presbyterian hymnal. Please contact Charlotte Trafton if you are interested in including your child in the Passages program.
