Youth (Grades 6 – 12)

Young people in grades 6 through 12 are invited to participate in Westminster’s youth ministry!

Want to stay up-to-date with all our programs and events for youth? Email Pastor Ellen to join our mailing list!

Sunday School

Sunday School classes for youth begin at 9:45 a.m. in the Youth Room with snacks, games and sharing. Then we move into discussion-based Bible study. Occasionally, youth participate in special Sunday School activities, like service Sunday School.

Westminster Youth Fellowship

You’re invited to join us for fellowship on Sunday afternoons from 12-2 pm. We eat a meal together and stay busy with activities here at the church or in our community. We also like to meet with youth from other Austin Presbyterian churches for offsite events.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation is an opportunity for young people to reaffirm their baptismal vows (or be baptized) and become full voting members of the congregation. Confirmation class prepares them for this step into adult faith by instructing them in the theology, worship, history and traditions of the Presbyterian Church. We also strive to create a warm community where students are invited to ask questions and examine their own faith. Confirmation class is held every other school year and is intended for 8th and 9th graders. For more information on the 2023-24 confirmation class schedule, contact Pastor Ellen.

Mission Trips

Westminster youth traditionally participate in a weeklong summer mission trip. On these trips, we learn about the social issues that affect communities, explore God’s call to love our neighbors, and offer hands-on help to those in need. Recently, we have served at The Center, a ministry of the Presbytery of Baltimore, and participated in Hurricane Harvey relief work through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.

Worship Leadership

Westminster youth regularly participate in the leadership of worship as acolytes, scripture readers, and in other portions of the service.  They also lead a spirited Youth Sunday service each spring.

John Knox Ranch

Westminster children and youth are active in the summer camping programs at Mission Presbytery’s John Knox Ranch near Wimberley, Texas.

Mo-Ranch Youth Conferences

Mo-Ranch offers a variety of summer conferences for youth. WPC youth are encouraged to attend:

Teen Leadership Conference: TLC gives high schoolers an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and grow in their faith. Each student is assigned a working group, and by the end of the week, youth are running the conference!

Do you love Midwinters? Then you’ll love Junior High Jubilee! This conference gives middle schoolers a chance to hear a great speaker, talk about their faith in small groups, and enjoy all the recreation opportunities Mo-Ranch has to offer.
